" Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them out, just as they are, chaf and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away"
If you are considering counselling, you might be feeling a little anxious about discussing upsetting emotions, painful memories, or your present circumstances.
Talking about painful emotions and thoughts can feel difficult to start with and, initially, you may feel uncomfortable. However, this process is necessary in order to move forward and in time, you should start to feel better.
You may also wonder what I should expect from a counselling.
This is your opportunity for you to discuss your circumstances and what you hope to gain from counselling.
During our first session I will explain how I work, I will also discuss my counselling contract with you and respond to any queries you may have. I also complete an initial client assessment with you to identify a safe and effective therapeutic way of meeting your needs.
Following the initial session clients usually enter into an agreement with me to work for a minimum period of 6 weeks this creates an ongoing structure for our work together and the counselling relationship.
After this time our agreement to work together is open-ended as I work on a short, medium and long term basis.
My aim is to provide you with the opportunity to feel and express your feelings in a very safe and held place. Therefore, my work is person centred and humanistic, working gently, and sensitively with you- at your own pace.
